What is a Holistic EMDR Intensive?

TCI Holistic EMDR Intensives are like a SPA for your Nervous system

You deserve premium services from your mental health experience. Let us guide you as you unwind your mind and return to your body.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a clinical mental health modality designed to help finish the hard moments that are stuck in the nervous system. It is an evidence-based practice known worldwide for its effectiveness and lasting impact. On its own, EMDR is already a completely comprehensive treatment approach for addressing trauma, anxiety, depression, complex grief, adjustment disorders, and beyond. An EMDR intensive is an accelerated form of therapy that allows you to cut the line, work on curated goals, and see results.

TCI's Holistic EMDR intensives are unique for several reasons. First, when you commit to an EMDR intensive with our team, you're getting accelerated access to one of the EMDR International Association's approved trainers. You are also getting access to a provider who specializes in integrating the physical symptoms associated with your mental health concerns into your comprehensive treatment plan, meaning that results from your intensive can impact every area of your wellbeing. Using trauma-informed yoga, Reiki, and holistic psychoeducation in conjunction with EMDR, our holistic intensive program will work to keep you feeling safe, grounded, and present while also doing deep and lasting work.

Before your intensive, you'll receive a package from us that includes a variety of wellness items and a personalized treatment workbook.

Our intensives are open to clients ages 12+ in two unique formats:

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

EMDR, which stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a therapeutic intervention that helps your body and your brain digest hard things that have happened. Through the use of a technique called bilateral stimulation, the therapist facilitates the natural healing systems in your brain to file old experiences that have been stuck... often leading to a decrease in distressing symptoms, flashbacks, nightmares, and body sensations.

Though there are no guarantees that any type of therapy will work for you, EMDR is a well-researched therapeutic model recognized as effective by organizations such as the American Psychiatric Association, the Department of Veterans Affairs/Department of Defense, and the World Health Organization.

Trauma-informed Yoga

Have you ever been in a traditional studio yoga class and ended up feeling nauseous, triggered, or overwhelmed with emotion?

Yoga is an incredible resource for physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional health. But sometimes traditional yoga practices leave individuals feeling worse. That's why trauma-informed/trauma-sensitive yoga started.

A trauma-informed approach to yoga takes all of the benefits of traditional yoga packaged to purposefully make the practice more accessible to participants. Things like the use of language, the offering of choice, and the hands-off teaching approach focus students on identifying body sensations and emotional changes as they arise.

"A trauma-informed yoga teacher" should be able to point to specific training that they have completed in addition to a traditional 200 hour+ training program, focusing on issues related to trauma and other mental health concerns that could impact a participant's experience of their yoga practice.

Reiki Energy Work

Reiki is an energy healing modality that has been passed from provider to provider since the 1920s. Originating in Japan with Dr. Mikao Usui, this gentle and powerful technique is now commonly used around the world.

Though it's common in the US to find Reiki practitioners working in hospitals, the practice of Reiki is not limited to the realm of physical healing. In fact, this practice is an excellent intervention for those seeking balance emotionally and mentally. It is a powerful and unique additional offering that makes TCI's intensives truly holistic, providing immediate relief and regulation following intensive sessions of EMDR.

Holistic Integration and Psychoeducation

98% of our atoms are replaced yearly. That means that rewiring is not just processes of the mind or emotions, but a process of the physical body too. Holistic mental health and somatic services offered by TCI are incomplete without integration through teaching and resourcing. Using integrative practices, we can extend the work from our holistic EMDR intensives into every area of life, including habit formation, movement activities, food choices, and self-regulation techniques.
